I think this is teh most famous Stormbird.  But frankly, I hate the whole turbo prop/fan jet whatever look.  I think it needs to be like a Thunderhawk, but bigger.  It is a orbital lander.

So how do we use the Aurora as a base for a Stormbird?  I think this is the easiest way to get the Aurora integrated as it is so readily available.

I think it needs  anew cockpit and some big ass wings and a new tail.  Thoughts?

That's pretty wicked-looking! Is there some sort of homebrew Datafax made up on this? I'd like to gander and gawk some more :)

The Turbo-Fan design was base doff of an illustration of a Strombird from the old Epic books.  Longshot has made similar ones to the original one from Bulldog (the images that Loken posted.  Here is a link to the SIegeworld site with Longshot's build of the Stormbird:

Not that Im one to talk, but an obvious typo bit me:

Longshot is the man.   But I still hate the whole VTOL jet thing. Just doesn't seem like an Orbital Lander for me.  Plus while I know there is an illustration for that, I think the Horus Heresy Novels have ret conned that.  I don't think that old Epic illustration is what they are describing in the Horus Heresy books.

My 2 credits.

I did 2 of those as a commission for Kahuna. He wanted me to build them like BulldogUKs I did not really think too much about the physics of performing an orbital landing with the big fan engines. I guess the thing have a power field that prevents them from burning up on entry. I really like how they came out and I really need to work on the 4th that another friend asked me to build.

Oh, don't get me wrong Greg, your stuff is AMAZING.  I just think we shoudl come up with an alternate look for the Stormbird.  And my suggestion was using the Aurora lander as BulldogUK did, but without the Turbo Fans.  Add a cockpit and some wings and a tail.

Thoughts?

I think if you are going to try to reinvent or invent in the first place the Stormbird the Aurora is too industrial and you should try something more like this.

My take on that is:

1)  Too similar to a Thunderhawk.

2)  Not Space Mariney enough...would need some work.

3)  I like the 4 engines which it gives it more size and scale than a Thunderhawk.

I love the fact it looks more elegant than a Thunderhawk; whenever the Stormbird is mentioned, the writer usually takes the time to emphasize how the Stormbird is a Bentley to the Thunderhawk's Toyota.

Yeah. it looks like a cross between an imperial navy ship with the armored bow, and a thunderhawk. i love it.
